Get started with unique promo codes Follow
What are unique promo codes?
This feature allows you to create unique promo codes that can only be used once. In this guide, we will show you how to upload these codes onto the system and connect them with the ticket type of your choice.
Where do I find the unique promo codes module?
The first step is to get access to the unique promo codes module. This is something that needs to be activated by us and if you wish to use it, please contact us here and we will sort it out for you.
The second step is to locate the unique promo codes module after it has been activated. You can find this by heading over to the Organizer settings in the top menu and then Promo codes in the left sidebar menu.
Once you have located this, the third step is to download the template in which you set up the codes as you please. You download the CSV template by clicking the template.csv text shown on the picture below.

Follow the steps below to proceed with setting up your unique promo codes.
How do I set up my unique promo codes in the template I just downloaded?
When you open the template in either Google Sheets or Excel, it should look similar to the picture below, so our next step is to fill in the information needed and decide how many codes you need and also give them a name so that we can easily connect them to the ticket types you wish.

Now you can clearly see the two columns in the top saying Code and type.
Code
This being the actual unique promo code that the customer will enter in order to see the ticket and continue with the purchase.
This means that all the codes in the sheet must have a unique name. This is best done by adding digits in the back to differentiate them from one and another.
Type
This being the name of this group of unique promo codes which you will later connect to a specific ticket type or multiple ticket types.
Please keep in mind that this name is not visible for customers, but rather a way for you as an organiser to keep things organised and understand which promo code is connected to which event or ticket type.
What does a properly filled in sheet look like?
To give you an example, here is an example of 20 promo codes that would be used in a football match between Milan and Inter on the 30th of July 2020. Please see the picture below.

We recommend keeping the codes for the customers as short as possible to not confuse them.
We also recommend setting type to something that can be connected to the event or ticket type, so that we can easily understand which one to pick.
In addition to this, you can also see that I avoided using blanks or space between the characters/words. This is simply because blanks or spaces are not supported when setting up the unique promo codes.
Once you have set up this sheet accordingly, please make sure to save the file as an .XLSX-file.
The reason behind this is that the upload function will only accept an .XLSX-file, even though the template is initially downloaded as a .CSV-file
How do I upload the finished sheet?
The next step is to upload the finished file when you are happy with the codes. You do this in the promo code module and there you can find the Import-button shown on the picture below.

Once the promo codes have been imported, it should look something like the picture below.

Once you have achieved this, the next step is to connect this group of promo codes to a specific ticket type in your event or events.
How do I connect my unique promo codes to a ticket type?
Since you now have uploaded your unique promo codes, you will now need to go to the ticket type in your event that you wish to connect to these promo codes.
Open the ticket type settings as usual, and go down to the PROMO CODE field.
Select Unique promo codes and then select the type by what you decided previously to name your group of promo codes. Down below you can see how it looks like based on the previously mentioned example.
We have now connected the unique promo codes to the ticket type and customers can now purchase their ticket with the help of the promo codes you have uploaded.
You are now done with the procedure to create unique promo codes and you can repeat this process on multiple events.
Important information
- If you connect the same group of promo codes you uploaded to multiple ticket types, the customer can still only use the code once in total.
- As of now, TicketCo does not have a way to distribute promo codes to your customers for you.
You would need to use an external email service to do that, or find a way that suits to distribute the codes. - If you upload the same codes multiple times, the most recent upload will overwrite the previous codes and the new ones will be active. Should a code be marked as used in the system and you upload the same code again, this code would then reset and become available for use once again.
