Different types of discounts
When setting up your events, you may wish to consider providing discounts for your ticket buyers. Perhaps you want to offer them a discount if they purchase 5 or more tickets, or maybe you want to give them a promotional code or early bird discount.
In this article we will outline the different types of discounts you can set up in TicketCo, and we will point you to other articles which will show you how to set up these discounts.
Promo code tickets
In essence: You assign a code of your choice to a specific ticket type. In order to access the specific ticket type, your customers will have to enter the code and then the ticket will be revealed.
Typical use case: You have some VIP guests, sponsors or members of staff who you want to give reduced price tickets to, but you do not want these reduced price tickets to be visible to everyone. So you inform your special guests/staff members of the promo code, and they will be able to "unlock" the hidden ticket type and complete their purchase.
Simple to set up, and can be used in a wide variety of situations
You can limit how many times a code is used
How to set up: You will set this up under Ticket types in your event. Click here for how to set up.
Worth considering: How you distribute the code to your guests.
Promo code discounts
In essence: You set up a promotional code which your ticket buyers can enter when purchasing tickets. Entering the code will reduce the price of their purchase by a percentage/certain value which you set up.
Typical use case: You have many events on sale, perhaps time slot events, and want one promotional code to apply to various events. For example, you want all university students to get a 25% discount on their order, so you set up the discount code "unistudent" and associate it with multiple events.

Early bird discounts
In essence: You set up a discount (either as a percentage or a certain value) which will be applied to the first X number of tickets purchased.
Typical use case: You are selling tickets to a festival, and want the first 200 tickets sold to be at a reduced price, as this will engage your audience and encourage further sales. So you set up the discount so that the first 200 tickets purchased will have a 15% discount.

Combining multiple discounts
When it comes to discounts, our advice is not to overcomplicate things. It is often more effective to stick to one or two different discounts at a time, as having multiple discounts active on one event can be confusing for ticket buyers, and can make your page look a bit messy.
Consider using different ticket types and prices e.g. student tickets, kids tickets, as an alternative to applying lots of different discounts. You can read more about setting up different ticket types here.
If you have various discounts from the Discounts tab (promo code, early bird, group) active on the same event, the ticket buyer will automatically receive the best deal at check out. That is to say that multiple discounts unfortunately cannot be combined.
