What do I need to scan and sell tickets?
This article will take you through what equipment you need to scan and sell tickets with our TicketCo admin app. Attached at the bottom of the page is a downloadable PDF which you can share with your colleagues if you need to order some equipment. The PDF also includes our Boca printer ticket template requirements.
The TicketCo admin app
|
The TicketCo admin app is the what you'll need to scan and sell tickets and other items. To install the app, go to the App Store or iOS or Google Play Store on Android, and search for "TicketCo". Download the app called "TicketCo Admin" / "TicketCo Event organiser app". |
Scanning tickets
You can scan tickets on any Android device with a camera which supports Android 9 or greater. You can also scan tickets on iOS devices, ideally those produced after 2017. If you are looking for a sturdy, affordable and readily available device for scanning, we suggest the Samsung Galaxy XCover series. More help with how to scan tickets is found here.
Network requirements
For optimal scanning and selling, a stable internet connection is absolutely essential. This can be in the form of a designated WiFi, a 5G router or even a SIM card in the device itself. Remember that the network is an important part of your ticketing and payment infrastructure and should not be overlooked.
Selling tickets
The same requirements for scanning tickets apply to selling tickets - this is also done via our admin app on Android or iOS devices. We would suggest, however, that you consider mobile devices with a larger screen such as an iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablet for selling tickets.
To accept card payments over the counter, you will need a Zettle by Paypal card reader (Zettle 1 or Zettle 2 terminals). These are available from a variety of high street vendors and can also be rented from One World Rental or Kontroll Elektro.
In addition to card payments, you will be able to sell tickets and:
- Register the sales as cash payments
- Enter the customer's gift card reference code to accept payment
- Enter the customer's voucher reference code to accept payment
- Enter the customer's click card reference code to accept payment
- Create reservations
Use the menu on the right hand side to see how to connect your Zettle card reader to your device. Head this way for instructions on how to sell tickets.
Printing tickets
Note that you do not always need a printer, as when selling tickets in the app, you can distribute them straight away by SMS or email. You can also print PDF tickets on a standard A4 printer by downloading them from the "Report" page on your event.
If you need a printer to print tickets we have two recommendations:
1. Star Micronics MCP31LB series with Bluetooth module
This is our more economic printer. It's fairly inexpensive and robust. It prints on thin receipt-like thermal paper. This is a great option for situations where your customers are not expected to carry around the ticket for long periods of time.
2. Boca Lemur or Boca Lemur C
This is the premium printer and is a typical choice for organisers that need their own branding on the tickets. It prints on thicker, more sturdy paper that can be completely customised. For more information about printer requirements, please see the attached PDF below.
